British Airways begins laying off thousands of workers

British Airways has begun letting thousands of workers go because of the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.
And many of those who remain will face pay cuts and lose benefits.
Thousands of employees are expected to be dismissed on what has been dubbed “black Friday”.
The airline says more than 6,000 workers have applied for voluntary redundancy.
The company lost more than $900m between April and June, with the bulk of its fleet grounded as the demand for air travel plunged.
It comes amid a worldwide economic recession caused by the pandemic.
Cathy Feingold, the director of the international department at the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations – also known as the AFL-CIO, the largest federation of unions in the US, talks to Al Jazeera.
