If you have been staying up to date on what’s happening in Puerto Rico, following the devastation caused on the island by Category 4 Hurricane Maria, then you have likely seen the San Juan Mayor, Carmen Yulín Cruz speak. Cruz has become a vocal proponent of her people, and has done so at the expense of the United States Federal Government and President Trump.
Over the last few days, Cruz’s frustration in the government’s lack of help seemingly boiled over on an international stage.
“Dammit, this is not a good news story,” she yelled lived on CNN, following a press conference by the Acting Secretary of Homeland Security, Elaine Duke, in which Duke described the Puerto Rican disaster as a ‘good news story’.
Cruz later begged on television for additional help, as she cried out, “I am begging, begging, anyone who can hear us to save us from dying.”
Cruz’s own home was destroyed in the storm, and she is living in a shelter with the rest of the San Juan citizens, as she eats the same food they eat and drinks the same water they drink. This woman is clearly distraught, but remains very composed and driven to help. Below is a video in which she begs the President for his help.

Trump, this morning, decided to respond to the Mayor’s pleas, not by immediately flying to Puerto Rico, or sending additional supplies and manpower, but by tweeting from his golf course the following message:
“The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump. Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help. They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort. 10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job. Fake News CNN and NBC are going out of their way to disparage our great First Responders as a way to “get Trump.” Not fair to FR or effort!”
Meanwhile over 90% of the population remains without power, over 40% do not have clean drinking water, and thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed.
