As news broke this week that Facebook had sold ads to those affiliated with Russia, who sought to prop up several of the key candidates in the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump certainly isn’t happy. The reports indicate that Russian officials and/or associates had spent upwards of $ 150,000 on Facebook advertisements, which shed positive light on Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein.
Ever since the first inkling of news broke last year that Russia may be trying to help Trump get elected, Donald Trump has not only been denying such allegations, but has even turned the allegations around, claiming that Clinton, not himself, was the true beneficiary of such actions.
Now that we have clear evidence that Russians utilized Facebook’s ad platform in order to boost Trump’s chances of winning the election, the President seems to be doing just what one would expect from an egotistical narcissist.
“Facebook was always anti-Trump.The Networks were always anti-Trump hence,Fake News, @nytimes(apologized) & @WaPo were anti-Trump. Collusion? But the people were Pro-Trump! Virtually no President has accomplished what we have accomplished in the first 9 months-and economy roaring,” Trump tweeted just moments ago.
The President appears to have just accused Facebook, a large American corporation employing over 17,000 people, of colluding with two American newspapers to try and influence the election. The facts point in the other direction, however. Although Facebook may not have intended to help Trump win the election, the fact that they permitted Russians to purchase ads, which clearly influenced the outcome of the election, shows that Trump is incorrect once again.
The President appears to be trying to delegitimize important facts which are coming out of the current investigations into his campaign’s collusion with Russia, in order to ultimately delegitimize the outcome of those investigations.
